YSL CODE OF CONDUCT

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR PLAYERS

• Play for enjoyment, not just to please your parents or coach.
• Abide by the laws of the sport.
• Accept that the referees decision is final and should not be challenged. Never argue with the decisions of match officials. Let your captain or coach ask any necessary questions.
• Control your temper - no foul language no matter who it is directed at.
• Work equally hard for yourself and your team - your team’s performance will benefit and so will your own.
• Be positive and sportsmanlike at all times - applaud all good performance, whether by your team or by the opponent.
• Treat all participants, as you yourself would like to be treated.
• Remember that the aim of sport is to have fun, improve your skills and feel good.
• At the end of play, applaud and thank your opponents and the match officials.
• Win with humility, Lose with dignity.
• Never use unfair or illegal tactics to gain an advantage.
• Know that deliberate violence of any sort is totally unacceptable.

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR PARENTS/SUPPORTERS

Parents have a huge influence over the players. They are the ones who bring them to the training sessions and games, support them on the pitch and wipe the tears when they are hurt both physically and psychologically. As a parent and or supporter at football you should:

• Support and encourage good play regardless of who makes the play;
• Always set an example of good sportsmanship and give enthusiastic and appropriate support;
• Never undermine the referee’s decisions or handling of the game. Remember, without the referee we have no game;
• Show respect for opponents and officials. Without them, there is no game;
• Do not enter the playing area unless invited to by the referee/coach;
• Your son/daughter may not always be playing the position he/she desires; appreciate that the coaches have to ensure that all players have equal opportunity to play during games making substitutions inevitable. A substitution at this level is not, in any way, a reflection on the individual player’s skill
• Remember that the coaches and referees are there to make decisions that will be beneficial to all players.
• Ensure you and your family abide by the rules of the facilities we use

BREACHES OF YSL CODE OF CONDUCT

When a serious breach of the above codes of conduct is reported it will be reviewed at the appropriate level by the YSL coach and/or committee and if necessary appropriate action taken. During the review the YSL will talk separately to all parents and coaches concerned. On completion of the review the YSL will decide on appropriate action such as (but not limited to);

• Removal from the remainder of a quarter or game (a cooling off period normally resolves most issues)
• Obtaining an apology from one or both parties
• Asking referees to tighten up the application of specific rules
• Asking parents to discuss incidents with their children to prevent re-occurrence
• Asking parents / spectators to moderate their behaviour and act in a positive fashion
• Have a committee member attend matches to observe where repeated problems with a single player/team have been reported Subsequent refusal to comply with the code of conduct may lead to the player, parent or supporter being withdrawn from the YSL.
